The creative options for designing a brand are virtually limitless in the digital age. So, it’s a shock that one company’s brand should look exactly like another’s clone given that fact.
The Boring Company is a tunneling and infrastructure drilling company founded in 2017 by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who, one day caught in traffic jams, wondered if he could avoid all of this by traveling underground. .
“The Morning Show” is an upcoming series that will debut this fall on Apple’s new TV Plus streaming service. It is Apple’s first major TV show and stars Steve Carell, Jennifer Aniston, and Reese Witherspoon as morning show hosts battling their personal and professional demons.
Nothing in common with these two except their logos.
The first trailer for “The Morning Show“Posted Monday describing the show’s new brand immediately put social media into turmoil. The brand“ The Morning Show ”bears an eerie resemblance in design to The Boring Company brand that debuted two years ago.
The arrangement of the three words of each mark is similar. The shaded letter “O” is also similar. The rectangular shape of the design is also the same.
How is it possible? And had any of the graphic designers who designed The Boring Company’s logo never heard of Musk’s tunnel business?
In its official US patent and Filing trademarks with the Trademark Office, The Boring Company has defined its brand as follows:
“Color is not claimed as a feature of the mark. The mark consists of the words “THE BORING COMPANY” in black and white. The article “THE” appears at the top left of the term “DRILLING” and the term “COMPANY” appears at the bottom right. The vowel “O” in “BORING” is shaded. “
In its defense, Always Smiling Productions, Inc. (the production company making “The Morning Show”) said it filed a standard character mark for the show’s name in February 2019. This mark, however, only covered the words and don t include all the design elements.
Musk and Apple have yet to comment on this impending controversy.
